Salah is the spiritual lifeline of a Muslim, consisting of five daily prayers performed at specific intervals. It serves as a direct, unmediated connection between the Creator and the creation, offering a pause from the distractions of the material world to refocus the soul on its divine origin. Salah is a comprehensive act of worship involving the body, mind, and heart, characterized by physical postures like standing, bowing (Ruku), and prostrating (Sujud). The Qur’an commands the maintenance of these prayers as a means of spiritual discipline: "Recite, [O Muhammad], what has been revealed to you of the Book and establish prayer. Indeed, prayer prohibits immorality and wrongdoing" (Qur’an 29:45). It is described as a timed obligation: "Indeed, prayer has been decreed upon the believers a decree of specified times" (Qur’an 4:103). Through Salah, a believer seeks guidance, expresses gratitude, and finds tranquility amidst the trials of life. The Prophet Muhammad emphasized that Salah is the primary distinction of a believer’s identity. He said, "The first thing for which a servant will be brought to account on the Day of Resurrection will be his prayer. If it is sound, he will be successful; if it is lacking, he will be a loser" (Sunan al-Tirmidhi). He also likened the five daily prayers to a river flowing past one’s door; if one bathes in it five times a day, no dirt (sin) remains on them (Sahih Muslim).
